The Student Health Center offers injection services for students who need injections of medications or support for medications that are typically self-administered but the student hasn’t yet built a comfort level with self-administering.
Your prescribing provider must fill out our Medication/Order Authorization prior to receiving your first injection at the Student Health Center.
The form must be returned to the Student Health Center for review as instructed on authorization document.
- SHC will provide injection support only after the student has received at least one dose without severe reaction (at least three doses for Xolair).
- SHC will provide the service of injecting the medication but will not be assuming the responsibility of managing the medication or the condition necessitating the medication.
- The nurse supervisor will notify the student once the completed and signed authorization form has been reviewed and approved by our medical director. Please note that our medical director needs two business days to review the completed form before we can provide injection support services.
If you are approved for injection support services:
- Call to set up this initial appointment at 314-935-6677.
- Medications for injection must be obtained from our pharmacy on the day of the visit or be shipped cold from a specialty pharmacy directly to our clinic. To ensure the safety and proper storage and handling of medications we are administering in the clinic, we are unable to administer medications that are not dispensed by our pharmacy or shipped directly to us from a specialty pharmacy.
- For students who need support for self-administered medications (including, but not limited to Stelara, Dupixent and Humira), we offer support for one academic year with the goal of helping the student build a comfort level over time with self-administration. Please note that we are unable to offer support for self-administered medications beyond one academic year.
- Students may bring a partner who wishes to be instructed in the injection process.
